Team: Guess who

We are team guess who, in the masters program of interaction design at Malmö Högskola.For our course "Place-Specific Computing" we are doing a project with RGRA, Do-Fi, and Skånetrafiken. This blog will serve as an outlet to display our results from our participatory design experiments and as a way for people to view content from our experiments.

Starting at 1610 Laurens and myself were on the number 5 bus preforming two design experiments. The first experiment was to see if people would be creative on the bus. We taped pieces of paper around the back of the bus with two lines of lyrics on them. Post-its and pencils were placed with the paper so that the riders on the bus could write down their own lyrics. At the beginning of the trip we had quite a few curious people but nobody was writing down any lyrics. At 1632 the first person wrote down lyrics and when her boyfriend questioned her, she told him that the paper said to write her own lyrics. As the bus arrived at Centralen, there were some more curious people and the back of the bus began to fill up but only 2 people were in the age range of our target user group. At 1650 a few more people enter the back of the bus and they are within the age range our of target group. Three of them write on the post-its, but not lyrics, one writes "hej" the other draws some graffiti, and the third wrote her name. As we passed Rosengård centrum the amount of people at the back of the bus greatly declined until there was only 2 or 3 people besides myself and Laurens. At 1725 the bus left Kvarnby and headed back to centralen. Seen in the picture here is where we had intended people to drop off their lyrics but without proper instructions the purpose of the box was unclear and did a better job of being a donation box than a lyrics box. At 1735 an older lady wrote down something on the post-it. And as the bus pulled away from Rosengård centrum everyone in the back of the bus is within our target age range, except for the older lady. At this time the back of the bus was full of people within our target user group but only one person wrote some lyrics within the time from Rosengård to centralen. As the old lady got off the bus, she grabbed her post-it, folded it up and slid it into her pocket. The second test we preformed while on the bus was attempting to push content via bluetooth. We had a sign posted on the bus, informing the riders to activate bluetooth on their phones. In 50 attempts to push content, only 5 were successful. After chatting to two of the riders, it would seem that people are afraid of viruses. The trust issue, that we as a team have discussed previously, played a big role in our results from thursday, for future experiments we will need to approach the trust issue differently. To the left is a picture of the older lady who wrote something down but then exited the bus with the post-it in her pocket, she tried very secretively to take pictures of me, but it was blatantly obvious what she was up to, I took this photo about 4 minutes before she got off the bus.
